Welcome to the art room!

The art room is a special place. It gives students an opportunity to approach learning in a very unique way. In the art room students use a variety of materials, techniques, and processes to create 2-D and 3-D art.  Students develop craft, engage and persist, envision, express, observe, reflect, stretch and explore, and understand. Please search through this website and discover the many aspects of the visual arts at Hunt Middle School. Enjoy!

Who is Monty???

My name is Ellen Montgomery (aka Monty) and I have been teaching art at Hunt Middle School for the past five years. I love being an artist, educator, and advocate for the arts, and apply a culturally responsive lens to my practice. I have fifteen years of professional art teaching experience, throughout New England and abroad, a master’s degree in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from The University of Vermont.

Over the course of my career as a K-12 art educator, I have grown immensely through a variety of diverse and enriching experiences. I have written extensive curriculum, including AP, fulfilled various leadership roles, collaborated with school and community members, taught art at an international school in Thailand, supervised student teachers and interns, pursued my personal artistic goals, and have had many students win local, state, and national art competitions.
